University level politics, specially the brand practiced in India is a mind boggling phenomenon. As far as I could recall students or their so call representatives would go on strike protesting events of major worldly consequence such as the drought in Somalia, the advent of computers in the public sector workplace, the liberalization of our economy, etc., etc..

Undoubtedly protesting is one of the better forms of expression and the above mentioned causes definitely deserve to be protested, unfortunately I can’t recall anyone protesting about the lousy outdated curriculum, the existence of educators (with tenure) who do not educate, the pathetic infrastructure in our Universities, etc., etc.. These issues may be insignificant in the larger scheme of things in the universe, but it’s the small insignificant ones that add up to make the significant one.

I guess we tend to forget the old adage – “Charity begins at home”.
